Jim Tennant

My name is Jim Tennant, and I am an 18 year old musician originally from Sturgis, MI.  I began writing at about 7 years of age, but my songs became better as I grew.  The 'youngest' song of mine, "Heart",  was written around my 8th grade year.  I continued to write, but I didn't consider the songs to be of any "good quality" so I didn't keep them.

Creation of "Soulgate":

I downloaded Audacity the summer of my Sophomore year in High School (going into my Junior year) to record my new songs that I felt were actually going somewhere.  Most of these were about my first big break up during my Sophomore year, and how God helped me through it.  Heart became the first officially recorded track, and Soulgate, Amends, Anyone Else But You, and This is Real later joined it to become my very first recorded album, entitled "Soulgate", after the second track on the original five track demo.

In the winter of my Junior year, around December, I wrote two more songs within about a half hour, one entitled "My Overzealous Self" and the other "Tonight", which I wrote about the girl that played Cinderella in our High School's musical that year, "Cinderella" (I played the Prince).  I soon recorded these songs as well and added them to the demo, along with a rather pointless song called "The Dying Tide", which was basically the first song I'd ever written (and will ever write) without a real point to it.  Thus I had 8 tracks now.

The next summer I recorded two more songs, "Goodbye" and "Right Here" ("Right Here" was actually a revised version of a song that was written my 8th grade year as well).  These were also added to the Soulgate demo because of the fact that they were recorded with Audacity.  When I got my new software, Session Music Producer, I decided that that would be a turn point to where I would start creating a new album, entitled I'll Miss You.

Creation of "I'll Miss You"

The actual album is not entirely finished yet, and to be honest, I have no idea when it will be officially finished.  Right now, the album consists of 5 songs:  I'll Miss You, You and Me, My Child, Sorry, and All My Pieces.  When I create new songs, this order will change accordingly, but I'm pretty sure that "My Child" will most likely remain third on the cd and "All My Pieces" will remain last.

These songs completely shifted direction as far as style and meaning.  I'll Miss You is about a girl that I met at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp the summer going into my Senior year of High School.  You and Me was written last October/November and was written for my current girlfriend.  My Child was the first song that I kept that was written from the perspective of God to us (I say kept because I had written a song earlier from the same perspective, but pitched it because of its immature writing style), which I used to spread the love of Jesus to my school (it actually ticked a lot of people off).  All My Pieces was written the summer going into my Senior year of High School after returning from Blue Lake.  It is unique because it is directly from me to God...a songwriter's prayer if you will.  This song was not expected to be popular, but supposed to be a sensitive prayer for anyone who willing to join in with me.  Finally, "Sorry" was written in the beginning of my Freshman year, and it deals with some personal regret of mine.

Thanks for taking the time to read and learn.  I will make sure to add more songs as they come.  Thanks for the support!

God bless,

Jim
